Use:

SASS is more powerful and stable that provides power to the basic language by using extension of CSS. You can use SASS in three different ways −

1.As a command line tool
2.As a Ruby module
3.As a plugin for Rack enable framework

Using a CSS preprocessor like Sass (Syntactically awesome style sheets) effectively will help modularize your CSS code making it more maintainable, understandable and reusable. Sass consists of two syntaxes, the original syntax called “the indented syntax” and the newer “SCSS”.

How Does SASS Work?

A browser does not understand Sass code. Therefore, you will need a Sass pre-processor to convert Sass code into standard CSS.
This process is called transpiling. So, you need to give a transpiler (some kind of program) some Sass code and then get some CSS code back.

Mixins and control directives:

Mixins allow creating a group of styles, which are reusable throughout your stylesheet without any need to recreation of non-semantic classes. In CSS, the mixins can store multiple values or parameters and call function; it helps to avoid writing repetitive codes. Mixin names can use underscores and hyphens interchangeably.

Styling based on some conditions or applying the same style many times with variations can be accomplished by using control directives and expressions, which are supported by SassScript. These control directives are advanced options used mainly in mixins. They require considerable flexibility, as they are a part of Compass libraries.

Advantages of SASS:

-It allows writing clean CSS in a programming construct.
-It helps in writing CSS quickly.
-It is a superset of CSS, which helps designers and developers work more efficiently and quickly.
-As Sass is compatible with all versions of CSS, we can use any available CSS libraries.
-It is possible to use nested syntax and useful functions such as color manipulation, mathematics and other values.

Disadvantages of SASS:

-It takes time for a developer to learn new features present in this pre-processor.
-If many people are working on the same site, then should use the same preprocessor. Some people use Sass and some people use CSS to edit the files directly. Therefore, it becomes difficult to work on the site.
-There are chances of losing benefits of browser’s built-in element inspector.

Conclusion:

SASS (Syntactically Awesome Stylesheet) is a CSS pre-processor, which helps to reduce repetition with CSS and saves time. It is more stable and powerful CSS extension language that describes the style of document structurally.

Impact on Economy:

The economic impact of COVID-19 is very disturbing. No one has been spared of its ill effects. Economies of about 100 plus countries have been destroyed out of which some of them have asked for monetary help from IMF. Businesses across the world namely hospitality, entertainment, aviation etc have seen a major negative impact. Various sports events such as IPL and Olympics have been postponed. Schools and colleges have been closed. The virus has also disrupted the functioning of various online giants such as Amazon. Countries such as USA, Italy and Spain are suffering the most since their death toll is very high.

The lockdown in India will have a sizeable impact on the economy mainly on consumption which is the biggest component of GDP.

Every business can build brand trust by being both helpful and topical as consumers deal with the coronavirus and its impact on their day-to-day.

The Information Technology and enabled services has been one of the key driving forces fuelling the world’s economic growth. The IT sector includes IT services, Business Process Management, Software products & engineering services and hardware. IT outsourcing is the strategic use of external service suppliers to efficiently provide IT-related business process, application service and infrastructure solutions for end-to-end business outcomes which were conventionally handled by internal resources.

Companies opt for outsourcing primarily to scale back their business costs, accelerate time regarding completion of project, rely on external expertise to achieve tasks different from their core competencies and take advantage of intellectual property amongst others. As per Statista, in 2019, the global market size of Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) amounted to USD 66.52 billion which was 72% of the worldwide market size of outsourced services. The IT services market has inflated considerably by around USD 160 billion since 2015 (total size USD 866 billion) and is forecast to grow by another 110 billion between 2019 and 2021.

IT outsourcing is one of the most flourishing industries in the world. However, with the outbreak of coronavirus; a mixed impact is expected on the IT outsourcing industry.

Advice and best practices for a work-from-home life

This is a stressful time to say the least. Everything is impacted by COVID-19 in some way, including our work.

Once we’ve taken time to acknowledge how lucky we are to work in digital, it’s time to assess if our current content strategy needs any adjusting based on current events.

As a lot of companies are implementing work from home policies during the coronavirus to help #FlattenTheCurve, office workers will have to make some big adjustments for their new work environment. Content to help them with productivity at home will be greatly appreciated.

Executives and staff alike are looking for advice on how to improve productivity while working from home, perhaps for the first time. Consider creating content with suggestions on how to set up a home office or maintain a schedule while dealing with at-home distractions.

Conclusion:

Now companies are adopting work from remote location, thereby requiring more cloud services and IT applications to effectively enhance and strenghthen their information related security from cyber attacks. So on one side, when the Indian IT industry is expected to witness pressure on new contracts and pricing, there are segments within the IT domain wherein outsourcing is anticipated to increase.

How to Talk to Your Sales Force About the Importance of Growth

There is an order to grow. First, an individual grows, becoming something more than they once were. Then their results grow, the natural product of their personal and professional growth.

Most people stop working on the first part of this equation, especially at work. Because they aren’t continually improving themselves, they are the same person doing things the same way they’ve always done them.

When they aren’t growing personally and professionally, they are not expanding their capabilities–or their results. Here is how to talk to your sales force about the importance of their professional and personal growth.

Mainly Retina display is measured by two units: PPI and DPI.

One of the ways we think about growth is that our company’s growth and our top and bottom lines are tied directly to the growth of each one of us. As we grow personally and professionally, we expand our skills, our capabilities, and our competencies. As we acquire these things, we are given new choices about how we approach our work. This growth provides new options and new results, largely because the person making the decision is a different person.

Our chosen profession, one that has been good to us, requires more of us than many other roles. Our clients and prospects buy from us for different reasons, some of them business-related and others being the character traits that cause people to want to work with an individual. Other roles in the business require good people, but our clients aren’t choosing to buy from them individually, something that is true for salespeople. We must continue to grow personally and professionally because it is essential to our role.

One of the reasons people burn out is because they grind for too long without spending time working on themselves, doing the same thing repeatedly. Your personal and professional growth requires you to stretch yourself, see things with new eyes, and approach things differently.

The Changing World of Sales

Like everything else, our world has changed over the last decade. Much of what would have been good practices then are no longer useful to us now. They aren’t nearly as effective as some of the newer approaches and strategies. One of the most challenging demands of personal and professional growth is giving up doing something that you have always done or something that you have avoided doing. Unless we change, our results won’t change.

Most of our competitors don’t think this way. A few of you have worked for a company that prioritizes training and development. For some reason, in commercial enterprises, there is a belief that once someone knows how to do their job, they no longer need training and development. Nothing could be further from the truth, especially in sales.

We are confronted by a world where clients perceive everything as a commodity, including the salesperson sitting across the table from them. Our personal and professional growth allows us to differentiate and distinguish ourselves in a crowded market.

Buyers now have access to more information, and they are confused, sometimes to the point that they are paralyzed. We have to work on developing our knowledge in a way that allows us to help them make sense of their world, their results, and their decisions, including advanced strategies for engaging in these conversations.

We also have to be able to provide our advice about how they go about exploring change and their process for deciding what to do and who with, an area where most salespeople have had no training or development. Because the sales conversation is nonlinear and leaders strive for consensus, serving our clients means helping them do all the things they need to do, especially when they are unaware.

Character and Integrity

It’s unpopular to remind salespeople that the first decision a prospective client makes is a decision about the salesperson sitting in front of them. The critical factor in a deal is who shows up across the table from the client. You need the discipline to prepare for every sales conversation. You also need to be positive, focused, and engaged.

There is nothing more important than your integrity, something you demonstrate by doing what you say, you are going to do, and when you say you will do it. It also means being candid and transparent, even when it means you will disappoint your prospective client or make them unhappy. All is lost when your integrity is gone.

Our competency model gives you strong direction on all the character traits, attributes, and skills you need to succeed in B2B sales today, all of which, when mastered, improve the likelihood that your clients will perceive you as a trusted advisor.

I know that other sales organizations aren’t focused on personal and professional development. Part of me is sad for the salespeople who work for these companies, but the competitor in me hopes they never worry about the growth that precedes sales growth.

What is a Retina Display?

Apple introduced its series of OLED and LCDs a couple of years ago. These displays have a higher density compared to traditional displays. Apple named these displays “Retina display”. It has 4 times more physical pixels than the normal display in the same amount of space. The limit of the human retina to differentiate the pixels is 300 pixels per inch whereas the retina display has 326 pixels per inch. It is mainly dependent on two factors: pixel density & distance between the human eye and the screen display. According to Apple’s opinion, if the user is observing the device screen at a normal distance, it is very sharp and accurate that you cannot see the individual pixels anymore.

Mainly Retina display is measured by two units: PPI and DPI.

What is PPI (Pixels per inch)?

Whenever you are working with digital images, the first thing that arrives in your mind is the resolution of an image in pixels, and there the term PPI came into existence. PPI, i.e., Pixels per inch is an additive color model that describes a computer display’s resolution. The higher resolution results in higher PPI. More PPI results in a better quality of an image. The industry considers 300 PPI as the standard quality of an image. It is an RGB color model where each pixel consists of its subpixel.

Every pixel contains its subpixel

Describes dimensions of an image

How to calculate PPI?

1.Calculate the diagonal resolution using Pythagoras theorem in pixels:

2.Then, calculate PPI:

What is DPI(Dots Per Inch)?

DPI, i.e., Dots per inch, measures the number of ink dots that fit in an inch of a printed image. It is a subtractive color model that refers to a physical printer’s resolution value. When you increase the DPI, the size of the printed image decreases, and vice versa. Every screen comprises 72/96 dpi, but in the real scenario, printed documents contain higher dpi than usual.

To target devices that support DPI, we need to write specific media queries. Below is the example of a Retina display for the background image in iPhone 6, 6S, 7 and 8:

Example of Retina Media query

Html code:

Css code:

Responsive media query:
Simple 1x background image:

Retina 2x background image:

The above-shown 1x image is the normal image, and the retina image is 2times(2x) (i.e., double the resolution of the 1x image to achieve a pixel perfect image as the 1x will appear to be blurry to the human eye.)

Device Pixel Ratio

The Ratio between physical and logical pixels is classified as the Device pixel ratio(DPR).

For example:

In iPhone 8, the device pixel ratio is 2, since the logical linear resolution is always half of the physical linear resolution.

Physical resolution: 750 x 1334
Logical resolution: 375 x 667

In Apple devices default device pixel ratio is 1 and maximum device pixel ratio is 3.

In the above example the units, dpi(Dots per inch), and dppx(Dots per pixel) are used for maximum resolution.

1dppx and 1Dpr is equivalent to 96dpi.
Also, 2dppx and 2Dpr is equivalent to 192(96*2)dpi and so on.

Site Not Working and Also Not Displaying Any Error (White Screen of Death)

If your site displays a blank screen with no information, no errors displaying, it would be the ‘White Screen of Death’. This error is caused because of some PHP errors or database errors. Following are some of the several possible reasons:

1. Plugin Compatibility Issue

One of the issues might be of plugins in your site.

Some plugins might conflict because of the bad coding structure of the plugin. It may cause an error in the WordPress site.

Solution:

If you can access your Administration screen, then first deactivate all your plugins on the site.

Activate all your plugins one-by-one to find the issue.

If you can’t access your Administration screen, then open your website via FTP and locate to wp-content/plugins folder and rename all plugin names.

Rename all your plugin one-by-one to find the issue.

2. Theme Issue

If all plugins are working fine and you still get the issue with a blank screen, then it may have a problem with an activated theme in your site.

Deactivate the theme and WordPress will activate the default theme.

Try to run your site, and if it runs successfully, the issue would be with your theme.

Solution:

To solve this check your theme’s function file.

Check if it contains extra spaces at the beginning or end of the file (remove space before <?php) or have a bad coded function, fix it.

It may cause problems and your site might not run successfully.

3. Other Issue

If the above-mentioned points are not the issue with your site, and still getting a blank screen in your site then enable debug mode to find the issue.

The issue might be of PHP code or database error.

Solution:

Enable debug mode in the theme’s wp-config.php file.

Set Debug mode to true.

It will display the error. The error might be some PHP error or Database error.

.htaccess is a hidden file in your project directory.

To access this file, you should give permissions to access the hidden file in your client FTP.

Rename your .htaccess file and check if it works. If it works successfully, go to your Administrative Screen->Settings->Permalinks and click on “Save Changes”. This will generate a new .htaccess file for your site.

If you can’t see the .htaccess file, it would still not be created in your project. Go to your Administrative Screen->Settings->Permalinks and click on “Save Changes”. This will generate a new .htaccess file for your site.

Broken Website (PHP Version Issue)

Without PHP, WordPress sites might not exist.

If there would be a PHP version issue, your site might stop running and it may not result as needed.

Currently, v7.3 or greater version of PHP is recommended for WordPress. Your website will be faster, more efficient, more secure as you have the latest PHP version. But there would be PHP version issue if your site’s PHP version isn’t compatible with the version of PHP in activated plugins or themes on your site.

Solution:

Before you do any kind of changes, make sure to take a backup of your site. If your site gets stuck anywhere, there will be a solution to get back your site, if you have your backup.

First update WordPress, Plugin, and Theme.

Enable debug mode to true in your wp-config.php file to display PHP errors.

Check version of PHP in which site is developed.

There are 2 ways to check the version:
1)By using PHP function:
<?php phpinfo(); ?>
Put this function in your theme and check the version of PHP.

2)By using plugins:
There are several plugins that check the version of the PHP of your site.

PHP is set on the server-side by your hosting company. Interact with your hosting company to update the version or ask them to update the version. The hosting company provides instructions to update PHP on your server.

404 Page Not Found

This error is the most common error for developers. This error occurs when the requested URL is not found, or when displaying any post or page.

This error will not display anything and return 404, but it contains the content of the page.

Solution:

On one side, it is again the issue of .htaccess file in your site so you can follow the steps mentioned earlier for the same. In most cases, this solution will work.

But if it doesn’t work then rewrite the rules in your .htaccess file located in your site where your wp-content folder is located.

Replace the default code with the below code in your .htaccess file.

Resolve a Custom Post Type Name vs. Page Permalink Conflict (Same Slug)

The issue is very small or weird but might end up badly.

Accidentally, if custom post type and one of the pages in your site has the same slug then WordPress might not result as per your expectations.

In this case, WordPress will give your custom post type’s archive page. It will not display your page’s content.

The reason behind this is WordPress archives have seniority than WordPress page. Yes, it’s true. That’s why if custom post type slug and page slug are the same, the output will be of the archived page, not of the original page.

Solution:

There are two solutions to these problems:
1. Disable the archive functionality of the custom post type.

Disable the archive page of the custom post type, that is when registering the custom post type makes ‘has_archive’ to ‘false’.

Rewrite the slug of the custom post type.

Rewrite the slug of the custom post type, which means changing the slug in the ‘rewrite’ attribute when registering your custom post type.

Note: When following any of the above solutions, after updating the code, do not forget to update the permalinks in Settings => Permalinks. Otherwise, you might not get the updated output and see the old one only.
